Everyone wants to have a sparkling smile, yet it seems that immaculate teeth are very hard to achieve without chemical treatments. Regardless of toothpaste advertisements (the ones where people only wash their teeth with just the toothbrush in order to avoid the unpleasant image of the white foam toothpaste), white teeth are very hard to achieve and are even harder to maintain. Wash your teeth for at least three minutes
This may sound ridiculously obvious, but the truth is that very few people wash their teeth for the recommended amount of time. Most people wash their teeth for about 1-1,5 minutes, just enough to clean the teeth of heavy deposits and to keep the bad breath at bay. However, if you want white, healthy teeth, you should wash your teeth three times a day, for about 3-5 minutes.
Baking powder instead of toothpaste
Baking powder is a miracle ingredient that comes with countless benefits. It can be successfully used for washing your teeth, but not on an every day basis. You can however use it once per week. Simply dip your toothpaste in it and wash the teeth as you normally would. Attention! For optimal results, you should wash the teeth with it until the powder is fully dissolved and turns into a paste. If you have sensitive teeth or gums, you can first dissolve the baking soda in water until you obtain a paste, and wash the teeth with the resulted mixture. Some people say that the best way to whiten your teeth at home is by washing the teeth with a mixture of lemon juice and baking powder. This is not a very healthy solution as the baking powder is very abrasive and it can leave the teeth slightly sensitive. Combining this sensitivity with the high acidity of the lemon can damage the teeth.
If you like strawberries, you will love our next suggestion on how to whiten your teeth at home. Simply take a strawberry and rub it on your teeth. Not only are the strawberry’s seeds abrasive, but the vitamin C found in the strawberry can rid you of the unpleasant plaque. If you want a more efficient solution, you can mix a few mashed strawberries with a pinch of sea salt and half a teaspoon of baking soda. Apply this mixture on your teeth and let it sit for 5 minutes, preferably after wiping your teeth in order to remove extra saliva.
